Clay Play Gifts

Salt dough keychains

My girls decided to make small gifts from salt dough. Do you know this miracle? It’s a great alternative of plasteline or play d’oh. You can dry or bake it and the result is pretty hard and resistant. In this tutorial I will show you how to make a keychain from dried salt dough.

Supplies:

  • 1 part of salt (I use small espresso cups for measuring)
  • 2 parts of all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup of cold water
  • cookie cutters
  • jumprings
  • carbines
  • jewelry pliers
  • rolling pin
  • silicon mat
  • baking paper
  • paint
  • brush
  • spray varnish if your pain stains

How to do it:

If you can, grind the salt in coffee grinder to obtain more smooth dough. Mix the salt, flour and water and knead it until the dough is soft and unified.

Roll out the dough and cut out the desided shapes. Form a small roll from a tiny piece of dough and press it to the backside of the share to form a loop. Place it on a baking sheet and into the oven and bare for 2 hours on 50 °C. Then take it out and let it cool down.

Paint and let dry.

Eventually also spray with the varnish.

Using the pliers attach the jumpring and carbine to the loop.

Your keychain pendants are done.
