Μy girls use up their hairclips and hairbands like biscuits. It’s a bit like with the socks, whenever there’s a pair of something, one of the things gets lost. Any time is a good time to make them new hair decoration pieces. Today I will show you how to make a ribbon flower and bow which are great to decorate your hairclips, headbands, caps and more. Ribbon flower
You will need:
- ribbon stripesof the same length, I find the best length to work with to be 5 cm or more. Their amount depends of the width of the ribbon. For this flower I used 11 stripes 5 cm long and 1,5 cm wide – you can choose from lots of ribbons here
- glue gun
- rivoli – check some out here
Fold the ribbon stripe as shown in the picture above.
Glue the ends together as in the picture to create a petal. Repeat until you’ve turned all of the stripes into petals.
Glue the sides of the petals together…
…until you’ve created a flower.

Ribbon bow
You will need:
- 50 cm and more of a ribbon which is at least 2,5 cm wide – find some here
- Thread
- 5 cm of a thinner ribbon – lots of them are here
- lighter
Fold the ribbon and secure in place.
Sew through as shown in the picture. You can sew through the front and the back of the ribbon at the same time, or you can sew through just the front (like I did) and play with the back side later.
Pull the thread, the ribbon should fold and you should start seeing the bow.
Now sew the whole bow from top down and back up. This is what the top and the bottom should look like.
If you’ve sewn through just the front, now is the time to adjust the back side and sew through the ribbon again so it all stays in the shape you want.
Cut the ends of the ribbon into desired shape.
Melt the edges so they don’t split.
This is what your bow should look like now.
Wrap a thinner ribbon around the center of the bow and glue it on the backside.
This is the resulting bow.
