The Strawberry Giftbox is perfect for all kinds of small presents from candies to engagement rings. And here’s the tutorial.

I start thinking about spring right after Christmas. Around this time what you’d find on my table are floral paper sheets, recipes for fruit lip balms and various tutorial projects that have to do with strawberries. Not all of them will make it onto the blog but this giftbox just has to be here. It’s cute, original and fun to make.

strawberry giftboxIt’s a perfect giftbox for small presents such as candies or lip balms but also more valuable things like jewelry, maybe even an engagement ring. I can already see my crazy self making forty of these next Christmas for my daughters’ friends and classmates and promising to myself that I would not do this next year 😀

It’s not origami, however, it’s a great crafting activity for adults as well as children and it’s a fine motoric practice. Therefore, if you’re kids are safe around scissors, have them help you and have some creative time together, especially if they like paper crafts. And it will keep kids occupied at times when you cannot go out.

Before we start, I’d like to invite you to browse the Gifts category where you can find lots of tutorials on original gifts for your loved ones. And now let’s do this.

Supplies (for 1 strawberry):

  • red paper square – larger strawberry: 15 x 15 cm/6 x 6 in; smaller strawberry: 6 x 6 cm/2,4 x 2.4 in
  • green paper square 6 x 6 cm/2,4 x 2,4 in
  • 20 cm/8 in of waxed cotton thread or other sturdy thread
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • glue

  • thin paper piercer (or just a set of compasses)

Strawberry Giftbox Tutorial

Fold the red paper square in half horizontally, vertically and diagonally in both directions. Open after each fold. If you want the folds to be a bit more exact, place the ruler on the future fold line and then use the bone folder in the same way like you’d use a pencil. It will create a crease in the paper which will be easier to fold.

The folds have divided your square into 8 equal triangles. Fold the paper in half diagonally and draw a petal in one upper triangle (see the photo). Cut off the excess paper in this triangle. At the same time, you’re cutting the triangle next to it as you’re cutting on fold. Open and you’ll see that there are two petals next to each other.

Fold the paper diagonally in half again, this time the petals should be in the opposite corner. Trace them with a pencil and cut.

Open and now fold one pair of petals onto one of the uncut corners next to it. Trace, cut and open again.

Fold in half diagonally so that the last uncut corner is in half and cut the whole corner off.

You have 6 petals left. Cut off the majority of one of the end petals leaving only a stripe.

Pierce the top of each petal with a piercer or a set of compasses (about 0,5 cm/0.2 in from the tip).

Fold the leftover stripe in and apply some glue.

Close the shape and glue the stripe to the edge of the other side (petal) of the shape.

Thread the waxed cotton through the holes. The ends of the thread will come out in the same side of the strawberry. Lead one of them to the opposite side.

Fold the green paper square diagonally in half and once more in half. Place it so that the long open side is on the right, the short open side is facing up and the short folded side to the left. Trace a leaf like you see in the photo.

Cut out the leaf and also cut off a tiny piece of the lower tip. Open.

Lead both ends of the waxed cotton thread on the strawberry through the hole in the green leaves and tie.

The last things left to do is to paint the seeds with the gel pen or even with some acrylic paint – dip the tip of a toothpick in the paint and make small dots on the strawberry giftbox.
