Winter Lip Balm

Winter and snow have come and the cold weather gives many of us dry skin and cracked lips. Here’s a lip balm that protects and makes the lips super soft.

Some time ago I published this tutorial on lip balm for our little ones with lanoline. I like it very much but I realize that not everyone is a fan of lanoline and its scent. And so this time I made a tutorial on a lip balm without it. It’s easy to make and perfect for winter.

Ingredients and tools for three 5g balms:

  • 5 g of bio shea butter
  • 5 g of coconut oil
  • 5 g of beeswax
  • 0,5 g of vitamin E
  • a tiny bit of colorant, for example mica – if you want to give your balm some color
  • lip balm containers – you can find some here
  • syringe
  • whisk

If you want to see some photos from the procedure of lip balm making, check out my previous lip balm tutorial.

Put the shea butter, oil and wax into a small saucepan and melt everything slowly in a water bath. Mix well and remove from heat. When it’s cooled down add the vitamin E and the colorant and again mix well. If the mixture is too dense or even hard, just heat it up again. Fill the containers using the syringe. The balm will harden fast and it will sink towards the center, especially in the stick containers. That’s why it’s good to have a little of the mixture left to fill that.
